President Donald R. Eastman III.
The idea for a Presbyterian college in Florida was originated by Hunter Blakely, a national leader in the Presbyterian Church. With founding FPC President Bill Kadel, founding Dean of Faculty Jack Bevan and a small group of other early College leaders, that idea blossomed to form the spirit of Florida Presbyterian College.Their values and approach to academics, including the innovative 4-1-4 calendar, remain a vital part of the Eckerd experience.

The Opening Convocation will mark the official start of the 50th Anniversary Year. Known worldwide as a humanitarian and human rights activist, Elie Wiesel has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Humanities at Eckerd since 1993.

Eckerd Faculty Roundtable

Stevens, William Carlos Williams, and Marianne Moore

Etienne Terblanche visits Eckerd College from South Africa, where he teaches and
researches poetry at the North-West University in Potchefstroom. In his presentation, he
will discuss the ecological or "green" consciousness of modernist American poetry through
readings of major poems by E. E. Cummings, Wallace Stevens, William Carlos Williams, and
Marianne Moore.
