Week 1 Assignment
There are seven things you need to do to get started in this course. They should be completed by 9:00 PM on Friday February 1, 2008. Here they are:
- Purchase the textbook at the Eckerd College Bookstore.
- Be sure you have a calculator for out-of-class assignments, quizzes, and the final exam. It needs to have a "log" function key, so ask if you don't know what that means. The cost is usually $ 10.00 - $ 20.00. It goes without saying that you should know how to use the calculator.
- Make sure that you have access to a computer. You are free to use those in the chemistry computer room (SHC-205) and elsewhere on campus.
- Spend about an hour exploring the Web pages for this course. Use of the Web will be an important part of this course.
- Work through the course "pre-quiz".
- Get an Eckerd College e-mail address if you don't already have one. If you don't have an Eckerd address, see the Computer Center immediately. Practice logging onto your account and reading, saving, and sending e-mail messages. Do this immediately (translation: "immediately" = "today"). It will be helpful, but not required, to know how to print e-mail messages too. Experience has shown that these skills are easily and quickly acquired so let your instructor know if you need help. You will receive your first e-mail message for this course within a few days. E-mail will be an important part of this course.
- Finally, send an e-mail message from your Eckerd College address to your instructor (hudsonrl@eckerd.edu) saying that you have, in fact, done all of the things on this list. You need not send the answers to the pre-quiz.
That's it. Easy, eh?
