Eckerd College - on Florida's Gulf Coast
Chemistry Department
This photograph of the Earth's moon was taken at Eckerd College through a 4-inch reflecting telescope in November, 2005.  Both volcanic flood plains (left) and highland craters (right) are easily seen.
Stargazing Project

The stargazing project is finished for the Spring, 2008 semester.
The material here is now for reference purposes only.

Students successfully completing this optional project will have to  attend four clear-night stargazing sessions with the instructor and then a fifth session to identify 30 objects in the night sky, with the objects being taken from the instructor's list.  Keep in mind the following:

 1.  The project has to be completed before Spring Break, without exception.

 2. This project requires a great deal of flexibility, as stargazing sessions are often announced with less than 24-hours' notice.

 3. Weather can result in stargazing sessions being cancelled.

 4. Students completing this project can use the grade earned to substitute for the lowest grade earned on the first three tests.
