Chemistry Department
The Chemistry Department at Eckerd College offers Bachelor's degrees in chemistry, including a chemistry degree certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). We are one of only two Florida colleges where a student can earn an ACS-certified biochemistry degree.

Dr. James Sweeny


Dr. Sweeny earned his chemistry degree with us in 1965, and then moved to Yale University for his Ph.D. in chemistry  After a career as a research scientist with Coca Cola, he has recently retired to St. Petersburg

Dr. Sweeny frequently can be found in our laboratories, lending advice to students and faculty and adjusting instrumentation, such as the HPLC system shown here.
