The US Department of State's new science adviser is one of Eckerd College's own graduates, Dr. George Atkinson. Dr. Atkinson earned a chemistry degree here, did senior research with Dr. Robert Hatala, and was graduated in 1967. After earning a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, Dr. Atkinson went on to hold high and distinguished positions in the US and abroad.
