Eckerd College Chemistry News

Lisa Johnson and Jocelyn Cox Jocelyn Cox (left, class of 2001) and Lisa Johnson (right, class of 2002), two chemistry graduates, have recently been in the news. Jocelyn co-authored research papers in the Journal of Chemical Physics and the Journal of Physical Chemistry, as part of her graduate work toward a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Lisa recently earned her Masters degree in biology at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, publishing her research in the Journal of Experimental Biology. Lisa is now in the Peace Corps, working on Yap Island. She is a good example of how our chemistry majors go on to work in a wide variety of fields.

Chemistry at Eckerd

The Chemistry Department at Eckerd College offers Bachelor's degrees in chemistry, including a chemistry degree certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). We are one of only two Florida colleges where a student can earn an ACS-certified biochemistry degree. Our students have gone on to careers in fields such as forensics, atmospheric chemistry, and pharmaceutical chemistry as well as DNA structural research, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine. We've even graduated a professional baseball player and a college president!
