Eckerd College calls its creative writing program The Writing Workshop. The Writing Workshop develops serious writers, students who think of themselves primarily as writers, and those for whom writing will be an important avocation.

Peter Meinke

Peter Meinke, noted poet and fiction writer and past Director of the Eckerd College Writing Workshop, is an Emeritus Professor and guest lecturer in creative writing courses. He is the author of many books, including Liquid Paper: New and Collected Poems; Zinc Fingers; and Scars. His collection of short stories, The Piano Tuner, won the 1986 Flannery O'Connor Award. He won a PEN Syndicated Fiction Award for "The Starlings of Leicester Square" and has read at the Library of Congress. The Contracted World is his latest collection published in the Pitt Poetry Series.
