Julie Empric, Professor of Literature, received her master's degree from York University, Toronto, and her doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. She taught there, as well as at the Graduate Institute for Shakespeare Studies at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut before coming to Eckerd. An award-winning teacher on campus, regional, and national levels, her primary teaching responsibilities include Shakespeare, English literature, and the history of drama. She regularly arranges course-related theatre trips for her students in Tampa Bay and beyond. She also teaches "Children’s Literature" and "Literature, Justice and Law," a course serving the Law and Justice Minor and related to seminars she leads for Federal Judges nationwide. In these initiatives she is often joined by former Eckerd Literature major Susan Russ Walker, currently serving as a Federal Magistrate Judge from the Middle District of Alabama. Her research and publication interests include Shakespeare, Irish Literature, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the rich connections between literature and law.
