Julie Empric, Professor of Literature, received her doctorate from the University of Notre Dame, but also studied and taught at the graduate level at York University, Canada, and the University of Bridgeport’s Shakespeare Institute. An award-winning teacher on both campus and national levels, her primary teaching responsibilities are in Shakespeare, early English literature and the history of drama. She also teaches Children’s Literature (and regularly reviews new children’s books for the
Tampa Tribune), and Literature and the Law--a course related to her leading seminars for Federal Judges nationwide (in which she is joined by one of her former Eckerd students, Federal Magistrate Judge Susan Russ Walker). She has published on the works of James Joyce, and on teaching. In the spring of 2005 she performed as the goddess of marriage in Eckerd College Theater’s production of Shakespeare's
As You Like It, and she regularly arranges for student course-related trips to see plays (especially Shakespeare) in the Tampa Bay area, Chicago, and London.
