Eckerd College - on Florida's Gulf Coast
Music Department
Eckerd College invites all students to participate in music, ranging from the beginner and enlightened amateur to the music major and trained musician.
Performance Ensembles

Eckerd College singers and instrumentalists enrolled in any major are invited to participate in our many ensembles. The Eckerd Concert Choir performs a wide variety of sacred and secular music in local concerts and on tour. A select chamber choir drawn from the larger ensemble presents annual Madrigal dinners and is featured at public concerts alongside the college’s excellent handbell choir, the Eckerd Ringers. Every other spring, the vocal and handbell groups make an international tour. China was the destination in 2007 and performances are scheduled along the Northeast corridor for 2008 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Carnegie Hall, among other sites. Wind players may join the Eckerd Community Band or the Eckerd Jazz Band while string players will find a home in the Eckerd College Orchestra or a chamber music group. Regular opportunities to perform experimental music or to take part in a musical theater production arise as well. The Eckerd community is full of musicians with whom you can collaborate on a formal or informal basis. In addition, there are many ensembles in the community beyond Eckerd College that welcome student participation by audition including the Tampa Bay Symphony and the Second Time Arounders Marching Band.
