Professor Goetsch is interested in how philosophy can help us make sense of ourselves and the world we live in through disciplined reasoning and wondering thought. He finds resources for teaching and thinking about this in Ancient Philosophy, both Eastern and Western, as well as in Eighteenth Century philosophy, and the study of Buddhist thought. He has published several articles on the thought of Giambattista Vico, and the implications of Vico's thought for our current cultural situation. His most recent publication is Vico's Axioms: The Geometry of the Human World. He sponsors Eckerd Students for a Free Tibet.
