Jeff Howard decided to major in Psychology because he was fascinated by the wide variety of people he saw around him. Especially interesting was the fact that children from the same family usually grow up to be completely different than their brothers and sisters. This interest in how people become themselves eventually led him to complete his Ph.D. in two areas: Developmental Psychology, which studies the forces that influence us all as we grow, and Personality Psychology, which studies how each person is unique. After earning his B.A. at Valparaiso University, and M.S. and Ph.D. at Kansas State University, he joined the Eckerd College faculty where he continues to thrive and grow. He now teaches courses in development, personality, and a very popular course on the psychology of male-female romantic relationships. His research interests focus on interpersonal relationships, intimacy, and Attachment theory. He is the former director of the Honors Program at Eckerd College. He helps corporate executives to become better leaders through the Eckerd College Leadership Development Institute. In January, he leads the Leadership and Self Discovery Practicum, a special leadership and personal effectiveness training program exclusively for first-year students. He is a devoted husband and father. For ten years he served as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts conducting adult and youth training. He is very proud of his two sons who both earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He continues to serve as the President of the Board of Directors for Carlton Manor, a residential treatment facility for emotionally disturbed children. Jeff can be reached at howardja@eckerd.edu
