Tell us a little about yourself. What makes you a unique Eckerd student?
I'm currently a junior at Eckerd and I really love it. The best thing about Eckerd is that there isn't a typical student; we're all unique! Personally, I love to experience new things, and this is a great place to do that. Since coming to campus I've pushed myself academically, socially, physically and culturally. I've strived to keep all A's and B's, I've made a lot of new friends that I know I'll have for life. I've played sports and done other activities I've never imagined I would do, such as kayaking, rock climbing, and sailing, and I traveled to China, Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Eckerd is such a unique school because all of these activities are easily accessible to all students.
Why did you decide to attend Eckerd?
I visited Eckerd as a high school senior for the Explore Eckerd Weekend and immediately I fell in love with the campus. It's possibly the most beautiful place I've ever been. After touring the campus and getting to know some current students, I saw how close a community Eckerd really is. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I knew instantly I wanted to be a part of such a close-knit community.
The first year of college can have a profound affect on the other 3 years; what was the defining moment of your Autumn Term experience and/or freshman year?
The most important thing that came out of Autumn Term was the friendships I've made. It's amazing that somebody I can have a chance meeting with during Autumn Term can become my best friend, but I've definitely made some of the best friend of my entire life during Autumn Term. We've been to each other's houses halfway across the country, we know each other's families, and we still spend just as much time together.
What are some traits or characteristics you find in most Eckerd students?
Eckerd students love adventure. They love to explore and get to know the world around them, whether it be through studying marine life, visiting foreign countries, kayaking on the bay or lounging on the beach, we love to experience life to the fullest and get the most out of every experience.
How do you describe the social scene at Eckerd?
Eckerd's social scene is extremely open. There's always something for everyone to do. Whether it be karaoke night, an 80s dance party, or just hanging out with a few friends watching a movie in your room, Eckerd always has something to offer. If you ever get sick of campus, you can always go off campus into St. Petersburg or even Tampa for fun night life, restaurants, malls, and other activities like Busch Gardens or local parks. In all honesty, you can do whatever you want to do, and chances are there's somebody who wants to join you!
What are some of your favorite things about Eckerd?
Wow, I could write a whole book. I have to say my favorite thing about Eckerd is the people. Everyone is so friendly and happy. Like I said before, I've made some of the best friends of my life here. The professors are great. They are so willing to go out of their way to help. My mentor has become one of the greatest influences in my life, helping me with classes, internships and even my personal life. If you're looking for a shoulder to cry on or a buddy to laugh with, there's always somebody to turn to.
