The Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College

Meet Our Members

Gene and Camille Skluzacek

Since joining ASPEC in 2008, Gene has brought to our academy his special mid-west calm demeanor, intellectual diversity and dedication to community, country and family. ASPEC members continuously seek his input in discussion groups which include (but are not limited to) science, foreign policy, current events, and climate change, for sure.

Gene’s diverse academic background coupled with successful careers in the Air Force, the Defense Industry and Higher Education have all the features of the 21st Century Renaissance Man.

Gene’s personal higher education began with a B.S. degree in Physics at St John’s University in Minnesota. He also studied Meteorology at the University of Michigan. Gene earned both his Masters in Nuclear Engineering and his PhD in Nuclear Effects Physics at the Air Force Institute of Technology.

While in the Air Force he rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel and held the position of Chief Scientist for the Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff. Gene also taught Physics at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) and St. Petersburg College.

Since joining ASPEC, Gene has been Co-Chair of the Student Liaison Committee, and a frequent presenter at many Interest Groups including, Science & Society and Sometimes Science. He has also spoken at the annual ASPEC Science Day event and participates in the SunTrust-ASPEC Faculty Learning Grant Science Symposium project, each year.

Gene & Camille have had a beautiful long term marriage and have been  shining examples to their five children and ten grandchildren with whom they frequently share family visits and events.

Camille Skluzacek

Also a native mid-westerner, Camille is a Psychotherapist specializing in family relationships. Most people who know the Skluzaceks, consider marrying Camille one of Gene’s greatest personal accomplishments.

Camille received her B.A. in Education& German, at the College of St. Benedict, in Minnesota. She earned her M.S. in Counseling at UNO.  She has been an elementary school teacher and a financial planner. She has also served as coordinator of the Sarpy County (Nebraska) sex offender treatment program.

Since coming to Florida, Camille has been a Trustee for Suncoast Center Community Mental Health and a member of the Cleft/CranialFacial Treatment Team for Children’s Medical Services in St Petersburg.  At ASPEC, Camille serves, on a rotating basis, as leader of the Studio Arts interest group, and enjoys Visual Arts, Neuropsychology, Science and Society, Yoga, and Financial Times interest groups.  Water color art, drawing, cooking, travel and reading are among her special interests.
