A Unique Community for Lifelong Learning
The Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College (ASPEC) has flourished for more than 30 years as a unique community for lifelong learners, offering unmatched opportunities for peer led intellectual stimulation, physical activities and social interaction for more than 300 members.
From diverse backgrounds, our members (retired or still working), seek and enjoy a lifestyle that provides rejuvenation, enrichment, friendships, and an active social life. Our activities are focused in four areas:
Learning at ASPEC is limited only by our curiosity and imagination. We have more than 200 peer led Interest Group programs each month exploring topics in the arts, politics, science, philosophy, and computers. We also engage in hands-on activities ranging from boat building to Tai Chi. Most of our activity occurs at Lewis House, the Academy's center on campus.
Intergenerational learning provides our members a meaningful opportunity to work with faculty and students, both in and out of the classroom, collaborating on a variety of classes and projects.
Many of our members feel the need to make a difference, devoting time and resources to numerous community service organizations, enriching ourselves by giving back to the community in which we live.
We never forget to have fun! We enjoy the bond of friendship and camaraderie at our weekly social hours, group visits to events and museums, monthly "Nights Out" at local restaurants, and holiday celebrations.
We are a membership organization. ASPEC is a welcoming, supportive Community, particularly for those seeking a new start in their retirement years.
