NUTS!
My
wife’s first husband,
God rest his engineer soul,
collected nuts,
bolts too.
Boxes and boxes and boxes of them,
Big ones and small ones,
Long and short.
Some too small to see,
.some you couldn’t lift.
Boxes
and boxes of nuts and bolts
From Ur and China, the Indus valley.
From Babylon and Atlantis,
The caves of Altimira,
Luxor, Tella Marna and
Katmandu.
A Global museum of nuts and bolts,
Splendid in conception,
Flawless in execution,
A tribute to mankind
and the man
who collected it all.
So,
why is it now
That in my twenty year tenure
as his successor
as Maintainer
Of Household
Things,
that I have never
even once, found one
Of the damned
things, ever,
that fit anything
I’ve tried to fix?
QUANTUM MECHANICS
The
dichotomy you say
Is between mind and matter
I don’t mind
‘Cause it doesn’t matter
Marxists say
that it’s all matter, but
I think that
is senseless chatter
‘cause physicists say
there is no matter.
There is no chicken on an empty plate
but there is still energy to heat it
unfortunately
there is
no one
to eat
it
MILLENNIUM
Two
thousand years
we have waited
for the mansions
of the Lord.
Walling in gardens
hoping to still
the sound of
the hammering!
hammering!
hammering!
Of encroaching shacks
of hell.
BEHOLD!
(Last Christmas of the Millennium)
Behold I bring you tidings of great cheer:
Burdines announces 60% mark downs
in the biggest after new year’s sale ever!
And ABC has discounted overstocked wine,
while Publix offers buy one get one free
on everything.
Inflation is lowest in 25 years,
Interest rates hold steady,
Employment is near full,
And three wise economists predict
more of the same
next year.
And we, tired of front page disasters
and the tabloid prose of
City and State,
tend our stocks by night
under a giant star
courtesy of your Chamber of Commerce.
WEEKLY,
WEEKLY, WEEKLY
Monday.....Tuesday.....
Next July!
Time is fleeting
I don't know why.
Wednesday.....Thursday.....
Friday night!
I resist its passing
with all my might.
Saturday.....Sunday.....
Monday again!
I'm trying hard,
but I just can't win.
