Sheekey's Third Hat Trick of the Season Leads Tritons Past Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. - Luke Sheekey continued his magical season on Saturday night, registering his third hat trick of the season, giving him a total of 13 goals on the year, to lead the Eckerd Tritons (8-4, 3-2 SSC) past the Florida Southern Moccasins (3-8, 2-3 SSC) at FSC’s Barnett Field.

The Mocs took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Ashley Holmes headed in a corner kick by Dennie Townsend.

Sheekey then turned the tables, scoring two goals in 1:26, two give the Tritons a 2-1 lead. The equalizer was scored on a penalty kick while Sheekey’s second goal came after passes by Alex Patterson and Will Thacker.

Both teams’ offenses exploded in the second half as Eckerd would score three goals to two for Florida Southern.

After the Mocs’ Givi Kokaia trimmed the Tritons’ lead to 4-3 in the 81st minute, Sheekey completed his hat trick, icing the game in the 83rd minute when his shot from outside the 18-yard box deflected off of a defender and slipped past Mocs’ goalkeeper Paul DiPalma

Joe Ilett and Colin Kuhn also scored for Eckerd. Kuhn’s goal officially counted as the game-winner.

The Tritons will return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 14 as they travel to Tampa, Fla. to face the Tampa Spartans at 7pm at Pepin Stadium.

Flagler College’s Paige Rovillo scored in the 35th minute to lead the Flagler Saints (5-8) over the Eckerd Tritons (4-9) by the score of 1-0 on Saturday evening at Saints Field.

Strong Defense Leads Tritons' Volleyball to Sweep Against Lynn

The Eckerd Tritons volleyball squad (13-8, 4-4 SSC) broke even in the SSC standings, stifling the Lynn Fighting Knights’ offense (12-9, 3-3 SSC) to the tune of a .151 attack percentage as the Tritons swept the Knights on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center by scores of (25-19, 25-20, 25-22).

Spencer's Two Goals Lead Eckerd Women's Soccer Past Cougars

Ashley Spencer scored twice and assisted on a goal to lead the Eckerd Tritons (4-8) past the Clearwater Christian Cougars (2-11-1) by a score of 4-0 on Thursday evening at North Soccer Field.

Tritons' Volleyball Battles #4 Tampa, Falls 3-1

Lydee Benoit registered 17 kills and Regi Silva notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs but as the Eckerd Tritons (12-8, 3-4 SSC) fought the good fight, the fourth-ranked Tampa Spartans (15-1, 6-1 SSC) ended the match as the victors as they defeated the Tritons by a final count of 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19) on Thursday evening at the McArthur Center.

Eckerd Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Spartan Invitational

Ryan Cuitino, Matt Baker, and Luca Bell all carded a 223 by the end of three full rounds to help the Eckerd men’s golf team to a seventh place finish at the Spartan Invitational at Rogers Park.

Eckerd Men's Golf in Sixth After One Round at Spartan Invitational

Ryan Cuitino and Matt Baker both carded a first round 73, two over par, to lead the Tritons to sixth place on the team leaderboard on Day One of the Spartan Invitational on Monday at Rogers Park. Round Two was to also be played on Monday but was postponed until Tuesday due to rain.
