Eckerd Men's Soccer Sets NCAA Record in Rout of Florida College

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

St. Petersburg, Fla. - George Marchant, Luke Sheekey, and Derek Hall scored three goals in a span of one minute and eight seconds, setting an NCAA Division II record for the fastest three consecutive goals scored by the same team as the Tritons (3-1) defeated Florida College (1-2), 8-0. on Saturday night at Eckerd’s North Soccer Field.

The trio of goals shattered the previous record set by Montevallo, Eckerd's next opponent, in 2005 (2:11).

The Tritons had a 5-0 edge ostensibly before fans were able to find their seats as Greg Cavallini, Sheekey, Marchant, Sheekey again, and Hall all scored within the first 3:28 of the match.

Marchant started the record-setting trend 2:20 into the match before Sheekey made it 4-0 2:52 into the match. Hall officially put the Tritons in the record book, giving Eckerd a 5-0 lead at the 3:28 mark.

Eckerd curbed its scoring until the 55th minute when Mikhail Turner scored while breaking away after a through ball from Anthony Arico.

In the 65th minute, John Fletcher extended the lead to 7-0 after seemingly setting up his own goal, tip-toeing around several defenders before passing to Sheekey who promptly fed Fletcher for his first goal of the season.

Lastly, in the 76th minute, Thomas Serta scored after a pass from Dan Parker, pushing the score to 8-0.

Domenic Spedaliere received the victory in goal, needing to make only two saves while Lincoln Andres-Beck stood in goal for the final 22 minutes of the match.

Eckerd will return to the pitch on Friday, September 12 as they travel to Montevallo, Ala. to take on the Montevallo Falcons, South Region foes and perennial NCAA Tournament participants, at 7:30pm.
