Thursday, September 4th, 2008

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Eckerd College junior outside hitter Regi Silva scored a “three-of-a-kind” on Thursday night, going for seven kills, seven digs, and a whopping seven service aces as the Tritons (3-2) defeated the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves by a score of 3-0 (25-13, 28-26, 25-19) at the McArthur Center in the team’s home-opener.

Serving proved to be the difference in this match as the Tritons teamed up for 12 service aces, compared to just five for CSU-Pueblo.

The Thunderwolves gave the Tritons their toughest test in game two when they hit for a .316 attack percentage. Tied at 26, however, Eckerd’s Lydee Benoit and Allegra Shaw combined for back-to-back kills to notch the game two victory for the Tritons.

While the Eckerd serve fired on all cylinders, Pueblo’s offense sputtered as the team failed to notch 10 kills in any of the three games.

Benoit chipped in with seven kills and eight digs of her own while Keisha Carter led all attackers with 10 kills. Benoit and Silva, Eckerd’s two outside hitters, impressively hit over .300 each.

Eckerd will return to action on Friday, September 5 as they travel across Tampa Bay to take participate in the University of Tampa tournament. In their lone day of action, the Tritons will take on Ferris State at 11am and Minnesota State-Mankato at 3pm.
