Men's Basketball Routs Gallitos, 88-57

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd sophomore center Dale Carn led all scorers with 21 points while grabbing seven rebounds as the Tritons (3-0) defeated the Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Gallitos (0-3) by the score of 88-57 on Friday evening at the McArthur Center.

Eckerd started the game by scoring early and often, building a 28-10 lead to begin the game en route to a 50-15 halftime score. At one point, the Gallitos did not score a basket from 7:00 left in the first half until 17:55 remaining in the second frame.

The Tritons shot 45.9 percent for the game while Rio Piedras was held to a 26.2 percentage from the field.

Zaronn Cann added 11 points in 14 minutes of play to go along with nine boards while Chris Gray poured in 10 points while dishing out a game-high four assists and grabbing seven caroms.

Joseph Vegerano led the Gallitos with 19 points while Abraham Colon scored 10, all from the free throw line.

Eckerd will return to action on Monday, November 24 as it hosts the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at 7:30pm at the McArthur Center.

Volleyball Season Comes to a Close at NCAA Regionals

On a day in which a #6 seed beat a #3 seed and a #7 seed beat a #2 seed, the fifth-seeded Eckerd Tritons (20-14) were looking to continue the trend of the day but fourth-seeded West Florida (30-7) had other ideas as the Argonauts defeated the Tritons in straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) in NCAA South Regional Quarterfinal Action on Thursday evening.

Eckerd Volleyball Dancing for Third Straight Year

The Eckerd College women’s volleyball team (20-13) has earned its third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid as the fifth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The Tritons will battle the West Florida Argonauts, the fourth seed and first-time winners of the Gulf South Conference title, at 5pm on Thursday, November 20 at the Bob Martinez Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.

After three tie scores and eight lead changes to begin the second half, resulting, in a 49-49 score, the Eckerd Tritons (1-0) would go on a 27-14 run to build a 76-63 lead with 1:28 left to play en route to defeating the Flagler Saints (0-1) by the score of 82-67 on Saturday night at the McArthur Center.

Women's Basketball Scores Plenty of Points in Season Opener

Freshman guard Jordan Stacey had a stellar collegiate debut, coming off the bench to register a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists as the Eckerd Tritons (1-0) opened the 2008-09 campaign with a victory over the Webber International Warriors (1-1) by the score of 88-52 on Saturday night at the McArthur Center. Stacey joined five Tritons who accumulated double digit point totals.
