Men's Basketball Uses Balance to Beat Back Lions

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Four players, including two off the bench, amassed double figure point totals while four others had at least seven points as the Eckerd Tritons (2-0) defeated the Florida Memorial Lions (0-1) by a score of 87-71 on Monday evening at the McArthur Center.

Reserve guard Joey Cantens led the Tritons with 12 points while Trevor Lee and Lewis Lampley each scored 11 points.

The Tritons were in control of the game from wire-to-wire, starting the game on an 11-3 run. Eckerd led by as much as 25 points at one point in the first half.

Adio Mutima led all players with eight total rebounds while Lampley dished out six assists. Wayne Sears came off the bench to pour in nine points while Dale Carn, who was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, added eight points and seven rebounds.

The Tritons will return to the hardwood on Friday, November 21 as they host the Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Gaillitos at 7:30pm at the McArthur Center.

Eckerd Volleyball Dancing for Third Straight Year

The Eckerd College women’s volleyball team (20-13) has earned its third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid as the fifth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The Tritons will battle the West Florida Argonauts, the fourth seed and first-time winners of the Gulf South Conference title, at 5pm on Thursday, November 20 at the Bob Martinez Center on the campus of the University of Tampa.

Men's Basketball Slips Past the Saints in Season Opener

After three tie scores and eight lead changes to begin the second half, resulting, in a 49-49 score, the Eckerd Tritons (1-0) would go on a 27-14 run to build a 76-63 lead with 1:28 left to play en route to defeating the Flagler Saints (0-1) by the score of 82-67 on Saturday night at the McArthur Center.

Women's Basketball Scores Plenty of Points in Season Opener

Freshman guard Jordan Stacey had a stellar collegiate debut, coming off the bench to register a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists as the Eckerd Tritons (1-0) opened the 2008-09 campaign with a victory over the Webber International Warriors (1-1) by the score of 88-52 on Saturday night at the McArthur Center. Stacey joined five Tritons who accumulated double digit point totals.

Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Three-Set Loss at Lynn

Lynn outside hitter Camila Lins racked up a whopping 18 kills and hit .552 to lead the Lynn Fighting Knights (24-12, 9-6 SSC) past the Eckerd Tritons (20-13, 8-8 SSC) in straight sets on Friday evening at Lynn’s deHornle Center (25-23, 27-25, 25-19).

Tritons' Six-Match Win Streak Ends at #7 Tampa

Tampa sophomore outside hitter Melissa Vanderhall registered a match-high 13 kills and seven total blocks, single-handedly leading the Spartans (25-4, 12-3 SSC) to a straight sets victory over the Eckerd Tritons (20-12, 8-7 SSC) (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) on Wednesday evening at Tampa’s Bob Martinez Center.

Luke Sheekey Voted to the Daktronics All-South Region Second Team

Eckerd junior forward Luke Sheekey has been named to the Daktronics All-South Region Second Team as announced Tuesday by Gulf South Conference Assistant Sports Information Director Michael Banks.
