Recovery From Event
A crucial part of BC/DR services is the ability to return to normal operation in an expected and controlled manner. Staff will want and need to know what to expect - which things will stay updated seamlessly, and which may require special from ITS or the user's department.
After a short planned event (such as an evacuation followed by an all-clear)
- ITS will move services back to campus immediately once they have returned.
- E-Mail and Databases will retain any changes made during the event.
- Changes to web pages will be handled on a case-by-case basis. By default, changes made to files on www.eckerd.edu, or academics.eckerd.edu, and my.eckerd.edu do not "reverse sync.
- Novell Shared and Home directories and user accounts may be accessed normally. Printing with Novell iPrint will operate normally.
After a short unplanned event which triggers collocation (such as a multi-day power problem or low damage natural disaster)
- E-Mail and Databases may need to operate from collocation for several days while array replication is synchronized ITS will determine need on a case-by-case basis.
- Changes to web pages will be handled on a case-by-case basis. By default, changes made to files on www.eckerd.edu, or academics.eckerd.edu, and my.eckerd.edu do not "reverse sync.'
- During collocation, Novell iPrint will not operate, and Novell Shared and Home Directories may be accessed with NetStorage. On a case by case basis, especially for those with databases on Novell shared drives, direct Novell client access may be installed and configured. After the all-clear, Novell Shared and Home directories and iPrint printers will operate normally.
After a planned event and extensive BC/DR period (such as an evacuation followed by a major Hurricane)
- E-Mail and Databases may need to operate from collocation for several days while array replication is synchronized ITS will determine need on a case-by-case basis.
- Changes made to web pages on www.eckerd.edu, academics.eckerd.edu, and my.eckerd.edu will be copied to production from the Collocation servers by ITS.
After an unplanned event and an extensive BC/DR period (such as fire, tornado, or water damage to Armacost Library)
- Major delays in returning from collocation may occur depending on the extend and nature of the BC/DR event.
- E-Mail and Databases will operate from collocation for up to ten days while array replication is synchronized
- Changes made to web pages on www.eckerd.edu, academics.eckerd.edu, and my.eckerd.edu will be copied to production from the Collocation servers by ITS.
