The 2005 Spring Tour will take the Eckerd College Concert Choir and Eckerd Ringers to cities across Florida as well as a Tour of Italy with stops in Rome, Siena, Florence, Treviso, Venice and Milan.
Each spring, the Eckerd College Concert Choir and Eckerd Ringers tour both locally and nationally. In 2004 the choirs performed in
Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; Valley Forge, PA; Philadelphia, PA; Lowell, MA; Burlington, MA; and New York City.
In March of 2003 the choirs made their first international tour to England with performances in Oxford, York, Canterbury (Canterbury Cathedral) and London.
This spring the choir is 54 voices strong with twelve ringers for a total of 61 students (some students both sing and ring!) plus choirs director Marion Smith, professor of music at Eckerd College, and pianist Gloria Bolivar, instructor of piano.
The Concert Choir will perform a variety of works from several stylistic periods. The program will include Regina Coeli - Mozart, works by William Byrd, Giovanni Palestrina, Jean Berger, Rene Clausen, spiritual arrangements by Houston Bright and Moses Hogan, O Vos Omnes - Pablo Casals, and choral selections from Bernstein's Westside Story.
The Eckerd Ringers play on five octaves of Schulmerich handbells and five octaves of Suzuki handchimes. Their selections will include arrangements of well-known hymn tunes, Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Shall Reign, and Count Your Blessings. They will also perform three original works for bells, Hope Eternal, A Song of Gladness, and Festa.
