The John M. Bevan Award
Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award
September 3, 2008
The John M. Bevan Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award is named in honor of the College's founding academic dean. The purpose of the award is to honor individual faculty members for nurturing a campus climate that fosters teaching at its best. The recipient receives a citation and a check.
I am very pleased to announce that the recipient this year is Professor Reggie L. Hudson.
For your outstanding leadership of the College's progress in assessing the effectiveness of its academic program;
For pointing faculty colleagues in many disciplines toward useful student-centered assessment strategies;
For pioneering the use of computer-related instructional technology in the classroom and laboratory and in generously sharing your expertise;
For serving as an impressive example of how productive research enhances effective teaching through grants and publications that have helped to provide students with research opportunities and brought Eckerd national and international recognition;
For extending your teaching beyond the campus to the Pinellas County Science Center, the Lakewood High School Center for Advanced Technology, and workshops for the American Chemical Society, and NASA Astrobiology Institute;
And for serving over the past quarter century as a model of the teacher-scholar who gladly shares his expertise both on campus and in the wider community,
Eckerd College presents the John M. Bevan Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award to Reggie L. Hudson, Professor of Chemistry
