Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award

Established and endowed by Signe and Tom Oberhofer, the John M. Bevan Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award is named in honor of the College's founding academic dean. The purpose of the award is to honor individual faculty members for nurturing a campus climate that fosters teaching at its best. The recipient receives a citation and a check.
For your leadership of Eckerd's flourishing Environmental Studies major from its inception to the present day;
For your leadership of the Environmental Affairs Committee and its commitment to preserve outdoor areas of the campus for educational purposes;
For your sustained record of excellence as a classroom teacher at both the introductory and advanced levels, with an emphasis on environmental and conservation biology;
For your remarkable capacity to mentor large numbers of students while giving each one a sense of receiving your careful and caring attention;
For your productive scholarship resulting in a steady stream of articles and grants, including recent awards from the National Science Foundation, the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, the Audubon Society, and the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission;
And for your important role on the Faculty Coordinating Committee as well as the Science Curriculum Review, Quality Enhancement Plan, and Dean of Faculty Search committees, thereby serving as a model of constructive campus citizenship,
