The John Satterfield Outstanding Mentor Award
September 8, 2010
The John Satterfield Outstanding Mentor Award is named in honor of a beloved member of the founding faculty, and was established and funded during the current capital campaign by trustee Bud Risser and his wife, Fran. This award honors the special and vital role of the mentor in a student's life at Eckerd. The selection of the recipient is based on the impact on students the mentor has had in the areas of academic programming, career planning, and personal growth.
For your ability to discern and guide your students' strengths and vocational aspirations;
For your passion for excellence combined with a deep commitment to each student's wellbeing;
For your always fresh enthusiasm for literature and the ability to inspire that enthusiasm in students to probe deeper and reach farther;
For your continuing guidance and support of your student associates long after they graduate;
For your skillful mentoring of faculty colleagues over many years in the art and craft of teaching;
For mentoring not only by word but, even more importantly, by example a life lived with commitment and purpose;
And for being, in short, in the words of one of your students, "everything a mentor should be,"
Eckerd College presents The John Satterfield Outstanding Mentor Award to Julienne H. Empric, Professor of Literature.
