Staff Member of the Year
September 8, 2010
The Staff Member of the Year Award is presented each year to a member of the Eckerd College staff who has demonstrated initiative, creativity or extra effort beyond his or her normal duties for a sustained period of time and has had a significant positive impact on the life of the College. The recipient of the award receives a plaque and a check.
One nominator indicated that this employee embodies two popular marketing mantras: "Under promise and over deliver" and "surprise and delight." Always poised and considerate, she juggles the many facets of her own position while providing assistance to others in theirs and pursuing her undergraduate degree at the College, too. First starting at Eckerd in 2000, this employee’s commitment to the College is truly uplifting. This staff member assisted with the initiative to establish a Board of Trustees web site to replace gigantic paper binders with electronic documents, advancing the College's goal of establishing a "green campus." She spends countless hours assisting with major events—with "grace under fire." A second nominator writes, "One of the amazing things about this person is that she handles the 'extras' with such aplomb that many people think she's 'just doing her job.' If we all 'just did our jobs' the way this individual does, Eckerd would be an even more exceptional place to work."
It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the 2010 Eckerd College staff member of the year, Ms. Jolene Oweda. Please join me in welcoming her to the stage with a round of applause.
