In Indonesia, the world's largest Islamic nation, a Christian widow with two Muslim sons tries to survive the country's social and political chaos, against the backdrop of an increasingly fundamentalist climate. This fervently beautiful, verité-style documentary combines an intimate portrait of a family with a sharp eye for the natural and political environment that shapes their lives.

Leonard Retel Helmrich has made numerous award-winning documentaries. He was born in 1959 in Tilburg, the Netherlands. In 1986, he finished his studies at the Dutch Film and Television Academy and made his debut with the feature film The Phoenix Mystery in 1990. In addition to teaching, he has shot several documentaries before, during and after Suharto stepped down as a president.
