Disability Benefits

Eckerd College provides both short and long term disability insurance as part of the benefits available to employees. Disability insurance allows for a percentage of an employee's salary to continue to be paid to him or her in the event that he or she becomes disabled and is unable to work. Provided below is a brief description of Eckerd's disability benefits. Disability benefits are distributed through Sun Life of Canada. If you have questions about disability, or believe you may qualify for disability insurance, please contact the Human Resources Office.

Short Term Disability

Short Term Disability (STD) coverage provides a percentage of salary continuation on a short-term basis for an employee with an approved disability, per plan guidelines. STD pays a maximum of twenty-four weeks of benefits at a percentage of salary up to a maximum amount per week. This benefit applies to full-time, non-faculty employees. For more information, please contact the Human Resources Office.

Long Term Disability

Long Term Disability (LTD) provides a percentage of salary continuation for an employee with an approved disability after six months of continuous disability. All employees working a minimum of thirty hours are eligible following the completion of six months of employment.

Additional LTD benefits can be elected for a greater percentage of salary up to a monthly allowable maximum. For more information, please contact the Human Resources Office.
