Eckerd College has a continuing interest in encouraging responsible citizenship. The College encourages eligible employees to register and vote in national, state and local elections.


Work schedules normally permit adequate time for staff to vote, either before or after work. However, staff that do not have sufficient time outside their working hours and are registered to vote will be granted up to a maximum of two hours to vote in a governmental election.  Such time off may be taken, at the discretion of the supervisor, at the beginning or end of the employee’s regular working shift.

Advance Notice

To receive time off for voting, the employee must notify his/her supervisor at least two working days in advance, and must present a valid voter’s registration card. When the employee returns from voting, he/she must present a voter’s receipt to the supervisor.
