Staff Development Scholarship
Introduction
The College has established a Professional Development Scholarship to encourage employees to take advantage of professional development opportunities, such as professional conferences, workshops, seminars, or online courses.
Policy Statement
Eckerd College is committed to providing assistance and support to employees so that they can participate in programs and activities that will improve their job performance or contribute to their professional development and career advancement within the College. Staff may apply for a scholarship toward training that will equip or enhance skills directly related to the employee's position. Download the application as a Word doc or PDF.
Staff Development Committee
The Staff Development Committee which is appointed by the Chief Financial Officer and chaired by a representative from the office of Human Resources will convene in early December, March, June, and September to review applications for the Eckerd College Staff Development Scholarship Program.
Selection Process Eligibility
- Staff who have been employed at least one year are eligible to apply for scholarships to cover workshops or staff development opportunities that will equip or enhance skills directly related to the employee's position.
- The maximum amount of the award is up to $500.
- Employees who are approved to receive the Eckerd College Staff Development Scholarship may not be able to reapply for the program until the following academic year.
- A supervisor's memo must be attached to the application to support a work-related workshop or seminar.
- An application with supporting documentation must be submitted each time the employee wants to apply for the scholarship.
- An employee on partial or full leave of absence will not be eligible for the scholarship. This includes FMLA leave.
- Supervisors and Faculty may nominate employees for this award.
- Funding for this program is limited to $9,000/year. The Staff Development Committee will exercise due diligence in selecting employees that meet the criteria and their decisions are final.
Deadline Dates
Deadline dates are the same every year. If the dates fall on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) then the due date will be the Monday immediately following. In the case where Monday is an observed holiday, the due date will be the Tuesday immediately following the holiday.
