London Study Center. . . . .home of the Bloomsbury Group, consisting of artists, writers, critics, economists, and thinkers. Virginia Woolf was a prominent member of this group, along with the likes of John Maynard Keynes, Vanessa Bell and more.

Join Professor Jared Stark who will serve as Director-in-Residence at the London Study Centre for the semester. Professor Stark will teach the required course, The British Seminar, the Global Perspective, and will also teach Fictions of Empire (LII 331) in which students will study major works of English and Anglophone literature reflecting the cultural conditions and consequences of British Imperialism, from Shakespeare to Doris Lessing. Focus on the role and and image of London in the literature of empire. This course fulfills the Humanities Area Requirement.

Courses offered fulfill general education requirements:

  • Introduction to Contemporary British Politics | Behavioral Sciences Area Requirement
  • London in Literature | Humanities Area Requirement
  • Theatre in London | Arts Area Requirement
  • British Art History | Arts Area Requirement

Classes meet once each week, leaving time for you to explore London on your own. There are opportunities for weekend travel throughout the United Kingdom and to the Content.
