London Study Centre

#35 Gower Street - your home away from home

London Study CenterThis Georgian row house in London's historic Bloomsbury will be your home away from home for Spring Semester 2014, with Professor Zachary Dobbins as Director-in-Residence. In addition to teaching the required course for the semester, The British Seminar, a Global Perspective, Professor Dobbins will offer a new course, Punk Rock and the Art of Dissent. There is no better place than London to study this art, since it is still considered to be one of the historical nerve centers of punk rock, a movement which began in 1975. Punk is avant-garde art, social and political commentary, anger and outrage, humor and satire, unbound musical experimentation, and more. The course will explore music, artwork, and the various sites documenting the history and culture of punk. This course fulfills the Humanities Area Requirement.

Courses offered fulfill general education requirements:

  • Introduction to Contemporary British Politics - Behavioral Science Area Requirement
  • London in Literature - Humanities Area Requirement
  • Theatre in London - Arts Area Requirement
  • British Art History - Arts Area Requirement

Classes meet once weekly, leaving time for you to explore London on your own and creating great opportunities for travel throughout the UK and to the Continent.
