International Education

Welcome to International Education

At Eckerd College we believe that an international experience is an essential part of a liberal and liberating education.

This experience is an invaluable factor in the personal development of students and furthers students' cross-cultural understanding and their appreciation of issues of concern to the global community.

The learning gained from the experience - theoretical and practical - provides an excellent foundation for leadership skills and the service orientation necessary for success in today's world. These skills and the opportunities they provide are the basis for educating the people who will contribute to the quality of life at the local, national and international levels. The office of International Education and Off-Campus Programs supports the mission of Eckerd College by making these experiences available to its students.

Since its inception, Eckerd College has provided study abroad opportunities for its students. This commitment to study abroad is expressed in the mission of the college and, in 1960, the academic calendar was specifically designed to create a time for students to study a single topic. This four-one-four calendar has become a model for other institutions throughout the country.

Eckerd provides semester, full year, and winter term programs for student participation. In 1997 its newest model, Spring-Into-Summer, was introduced.

In November 2003 Eckerd College was named by the Chronicle of Higher Education as the number one baccalaureate institution in the nation with the highest proportion of students who study abroad during their undergraduate career.

We invite you to explore this page with our students as they stroll their London neighborhood of historic Bloomsbury within walking distance of the British Museum, the theatre district, and other great sites; witness the United Nations at work in New York and in Geneva; and discover all of the cultural riches Hong Kong offers.

We welcome your inquiries.
