SPRING 2013 Events & Excursions
Plan to participate in the following events. For more information, contact Maija Stradzina or Luis Herrera in the office of International Student Services
Date: Saturday February 9
Description: Florida State Fair is great way to get to know American history through fun exhibitions of farm animals, art work, etc. There will be exciting rides and enjoyable shows. You will be able to try some traditional American food and also the good old cotton candy.
Dates: Feb 28 – March 10
Hours: Daily 10:00am-10:00pm
Place: Plant City, FL
Ticket Price: $5.00
Description: We’ll plan a week-end day trip to visit exhibits of agriculture, commerce, industry, livestock, fine arts, horticulture, and crafts. Contests, youth developmental programs, top-name entertainment, parades with glorious floats and high-stepping marching bands. A true American experience!

Place: Myakka River
Price: $5 + canoeing
Description: A great opportunity to get out of the daily routine and enjoy the gifts of nature on one of the Florida’s most beautiful camping grounds. Alligators guaranteed. We have tents already and we’ll cook on the fire! Anyone plays guitar?
Date: March 5 and 14 (Tuesday/Thursday)
Time: STARTS at 5pm
Place: Lindsay Hall
Description: During tax workshop the ISS staff helps international students to fill out the tax forms, which are very complicated to do on your own. It is your responsibility to attend.
Date: Wednesday March 13
Place: Career Services (lunch provided)
Description: A catered event where international students are able to meet immigration lawyer and EC Alumni Alberto Lense and staff from EC career resources, and receive information about future job opportunities in the United States, visa opportunities, and OPT applications.
THE ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK 2013
Date: March 16th to the 24th
Places: Travel with students to volunteer in Central America, The U.S. or the Carribeans
Price: International students on F1 and J1 visas can receive a grant of $100 toward the total cost of the trip (contact Olivier Debure at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info)
Info session – February 4, 6pm at Fox Hall
Date: Saturday March 30
Place: South Beach, Eckerd
Description: A fun day in the sun with friends and a lot of delicious food and drinks. An opportunity to meet other international students and enjoy the beautiful beach on campus. Bring Frisbees.
FESTIVAL OF CULTURES
Date: Friday April 19th
Place: Eckerd College
Description: The most fun event of the year! You will have a chance to get to know your fellow students and their cultures and introduce them with yours. There will be food cooked by the representatives of each country and everyone will have a chance to try it. This year will be special because we will be playing music from all the countries that are participating, and based on that we will offer everyone to play a fun game where all the participants will be able to win money prices. Contact Olivier Debure right away to reserve your booth and discuss your exhibit (everyone participates)
