Tax Filing Guide
EVERY international student on a visa (F1 or J1, etc...) has to fill out a tax form - even if you did not work in 2008. Following are instructions to download the necessary forms and guides but I recommend you attend our Tax Seminar. Contact us to find out the exact dates for the seminar.
IF YOU DID NOT WORK DURING THE YEAR 2008 and have received no scholarships you still need to fill out form 8843.
1) To download the form, go to the IRS website.
2) In the Find box, search for "Form 8843" in "Product number."
3) Click on "Form 8843". The form will open up as a PDF file.
4) Print the form (you will need Adobe reader).
You can get guidance to fill the form by doing the following: Attend our tax seminar (contact us to found out the dates) or follow the instructions below:
5) The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) International Office has a nice website guide to help their students fill out the tax forms.
6) Click on UT Austin Tax Information page
7) Click on "step-by-step process".
8) Under the 'F or J Student' category, click on "LESS".
9) Follow instructions on this page based on your country of citizenship.
10) After filling out the form, bring or send it to my office so I can look it over and send it to the Internal Revenue Services. I will keep a copy for you of the completed tax form.
IF YOU WORKED AND RECEIVED PAYMENTS DURING 2008. You will need to fill 2 forms: form 8843 and Form 1040EZ-NR. To fill out form 8843... follow
