New Alias Policy

Changes to
Aliases!
The Computer Policy Council has been studying problems with the
mass E-mail aliases for some time. They have passed down the
following policy changes to help make our E-mail system a more
effective means of disseminating information and less stressful to
use.
Staff and Faculty Aliases
The "-announcement" aliases are to be replaced by "staff-official"
and "faculty-official." As the name implies, you will receive the
official voice of the campus over these channels - messages from
the President, Campus Safety, Emergency Preparedness and the
like.
"Staff" and "Faculty" are replaced by "staff-talk" and
"faculty-talk." These lists are only for discussion among your
peers. You may choose to opt-out or get a digest. List members can
post directly to the alias without any sort of delay, but those
outside the list can not.
Messages not to send to students, faculty-* and
staff-*
- Reminders. An event gets one announcement.
- Anything which has another list available. However, you can
send reminders to the mainlists about these other lists.
Those Other Lists
The following existing or new lists will carry information which
may be of interest to you. If so, you will want to make sure you
sign up at http://home.eckerd.edu/majordomo
- cps-events: moderated by the Office of Communications (OoC);
CPS events only. New users are added to list by default. No
opting-out allowed for students.
- campus-events: moderated by the OoC - any event being
advertised to campus, such as the monthly calendar, events such as
red cross, etc. Users added by default, can opt out or receive as
digest.
- clubs: announcements for clubs and events. Students are added
by default, can opt-out or receive as digest.
- sportsnews: Scores and updates from athletics
- careerresourcesupdate: Jobs, Job Fairs, Internships, and other
information from Career Resources
