Notice of Business Continuity Systems Live Test
On Saturday, July 15th 2006, from 7:00am to 5:00pm, Eckerd ITS will be conducting a limited live test of its Business Continuity Systems. Over the past year, ITS has been developing and implementing these systems in order to enhance the College's ability to maintain operations in the event of an evacuation or campus closure brought on by tropical weather or other disaster conditions. A core component of the business continuity plan has been the preparation of a remote site from which all of Eckerd's primary services can be run in the event that these services can no longer be provided from campus.
Saturday's limited live test will simulate the conditions that would arise in the event of a switchover from the local provision of services to their being provided from the remote site. If you are attempting to access business systems on Saturday, you may notice a disruption in certain services while the actual switch is taking place. Once the switch is complete, primary services will be provided from the remote site, and should function normally. The following services will be affected during the transition: Web Services, E-mail and Banner.
The test will be an opportunity for ITS and key staff to monitor the performance of the College's core systems while they are running from the alternate servers, and will provide a valuable opportunity for any issues that arise to be noted and corrected, increasing the likelihood that such a transition will go smoothly in the event of an actual emergency.
