How To Find Books

The web-based online catalog can be searched either on or off campus from any Internet connection. Finding books is the first of several steps in the research process. If you can not find a particular book or any books on your topic, please consult with a librarian for research assistance.

Searching the Catalog
The catalog is accessed by clicking on the Catalog link at library home page. The default search screen is the Basic Search. To perform a search, enter your search terms in the first text box.

For a Keyword search, enter a few terms that describe your subject, such as "child psychology" "air pollution" or "marine mammals diseases". The menu on the right automatically highlights "Keyword Search".

For a Title search, enter a few words from the title and choose "Title Keyword" from the menu on the right OR enter the exact title and choose "Exact Title" from the menu.

For an Author search, "enter the last name first followed by the first name. Choose "Author Browse" from the menu.

For a Subject search, enter the Library of Congress Subject Heading and choose "Subject Browse" from the menu.

You may also limit the search by using the "Quick Limit" menu. You may limit the search to only books published within the last ten years, to only videos, to only Reference books, or to only periodical titles.

Keyword searches will display 50 records at a time (arranged in order of relevance). The item's location, call number, and status are displayed in the yellow box below each title. For additional information about the item, click on the title

Browse searches will display in an alphabetical list. To view titles associated with the entry, click the blue number in the far left row.
