Catherine McCoy, Acquisitions Assistant, Technical Services
I am an Army brat, born on Friday, the 13th of May, in an Army hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. My father was a career Army officer, so I spent the first 18 years of my life in vastly different locales, like the Washington, D.C. area; Kansas, Oklahoma, and western Texas; and Okinawa, Japan.
I never set foot in Florida until I came to college - to a fairly new and innovative liberal arts school named Florida Presbyterian College (now Eckerd). I majored in Classics, thoroughly enjoying the study of Latin, Ancient Greek, and Ancient History. I received my B.A. in 1971.
A year later, I married Joseph
McCoy, who had just begun a career in teaching and who is still, 26 years later, teaching
Middle School in the Pinellas County School System. We did go away from Florida for four
years, teaching in the U.S. Department of Defense's Overseas Schools program- two years in
Okinawa and two years in Germany. It provided us with a great opportunity to travel and
obtain a cultural education of our own.
I have two children: Rebecca (right photo), my older girl, is a sophomore in college, and Rachel (left photo with her cousin Jill on the left), the younger one is a sophomore in high school.

I have had a life long passion for reading, but am equally fond of most of the arts. I love the theater and live performances of many kinds; art gallery visits give me great pleasure; and music is an absolute necessity to my existence- any kind, from classical (like Frederick Delius, a recent discovery and a current favorite) to "good ol' rock 'n' roll" (where the Beatles are kings of my personal Rock Kingdom).
I have worked in the technical services part of Eckered Library for 7 years, and none of that time has been dull!
