| Due
to the pending move of the Eckerd College Library, ILL service
for book requests will be temporarily disrupted between Friday,
December 3rd and Monday, January 3rd. We thank you for your
patience and for understanding that this is a unique situation.
Please
plan ahead for Winter Term. Contact Mary Abdoney for urgent
requests during this time, which will be considered on a case
by case basis. ILL service for book requests will resume on
Monday, January 3rd 2005. |
How to order articles
and books
In the past, we have used blue and white cards to order books and
articles through InterLibrary Loan. Beginning in August 2002, card
requests have been replaced by a web
form request. A link to the form appears on every library web
page (including the home page): ILL Request Form. Only currently
enrolled Eckerd students, staff, faculty, ASPEC, Friends of the
Library (limited), and ALUMNI (limited) have ILL privileges.
When filling out the web form:
- All fields marked in red
are required. Requests without this information will
not be processed.
- When entering your email address, please use your Eckerd address.
- Please include as much bibliographic information as you can.
Publishers and dates are very important so that we can obtain
the exact item for you.
- We are prohibited by copyright law from ordering more than five
articles from any one journal title per year. You may want
to search USF's library to see if they subscribe to the journal
(see Beyond
Eckerd).
- If you have any questions about the form or ILL, please call
Mary Abdoney, our ILL Librarian, at 864-8475 or send email to
abdonemm@eckerd.edu.
Check your mail and email
When you make a book request, an automatic message is sent to your
Eckerd email account letting you know that the book you requested
has arrived.
If your request is for a journal article, it is sent
straight to your campus mailbox and need not be returned.
NOTE: It may take 2-3
weeks for your requested item to arrive. Keep this in mind
for upcoming projects.
If there are problems with your ILL (such as borrowing fees or unfilled
requests), we will notify you via email. The sooner you respond,
the faster we will be able to resolve these issues.
ILL policies
- Students, faculty, staff, and ASPEC:
These groups have unlimited ILL requesting privileges. Please
note that only FIVE requests will be processed per day
for each patron. This will ensure that you are not overloaded
with materials that are due at the same time.
-
PEL: Requests
will be considered on an "as needed" basis.
Because of the short semester, requests must be submitted shortly
after the semester begins.
-
Alumni: Only
photocopy requests will be considered for ILL. For books,
please contact your nearest public library or current university
library.
-
Friends of the Library:
Friends are entitled to five requests per year.
NOTE: You
are responsible for your ILL materials once we give notice that
they have arrived. If you fail to pick them up before the due
date, we will automatically send them back to the lending library.
If you return books late to the circulation desk, we will forward
any late fees that the lending library may assess to you.
Also, please respect other libraries' property; take care of
the books lent to you and leave any bands or stickers on the
book covers.
Pay attention to due dates
On every book you borrow we attach a yellow paper band including
the book's due date. Please pay attention to this date so that
we can return the book to the lending library on time. This
may mean returning the book to the circulation desk a couple
of days before the due date. If it is absolutely mandatory that
you keep the book past the due date, and the due date does not
say "No Renewals," you may ask Mary Abdoney, the ILL Librarian,
for a renewal request for about 2-3 weeks. Be advised,
however, some libraries do not always grant renewals.
And finally...
Please remember that Interlibrary Loan is a privilege. If Eckerd
College Library is to stay in good standing with the other libraries
in our network, we must be very conscientious about due dates and
renewals and to treat borrowed books with respect.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
