An Eckerd College experience is not about teaching students a rigid set of facts. As one of The Princeton Review's Best 376 Colleges, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and one of 40 schools featured in Colleges That Change Lives, it's clear that Eckerd's first priority is to teach students how to learn. At any age.
Eckerd, a coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences, invites students to ThinkOutside. Located on 188 acres of waterfront property in St. Petersburg, Florida, we take advantage of our spectacular mile of campus waterfront along the Gulf of Mexico for outdoor laboratories in Biology, Marine Science and Environmental Studies as well as for an impressive array of intramural, club and intercollegiate sports and water recreation. Offerings in the arts and humanities inspire creativity and foster critical thinking and self-awareness. Every year, a significant number of our 1,800 students travel with their faculty leaders outside the U.S. to some 40 foreign countries for research and cultural learning, including our own dedicated study centers in China, Latin America and London. And we venture together in the Eckerd experience to think outside the conventional questions, methods and solutions, seeking to build a better world.
In addition, 1,000 students are enrolled in the Program for Experienced Learners, a bachelor's degree program for adult learners. Eckerd's Leadership Development Institute for executives, New York Institute of Finance courses, Academy of Senior Professionals, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Road Scholar program identify the College as a national leader of innovative programs in continuing education and lifelong learning.
