The Center for Spiritual Life

Spiritual life at Eckerd College is more than just lively chapel services, outstanding lecturers, awesome fellowship and challenging service. It is all these. But it is also becoming a person who cares for strangers as much as for friends. It is learning to discern between what is temporal and what is lasting, practicing decision making that will leave you and the world at peace. Spiritual life is developing the ability to see not just to look, to hear not just to listen. It is life with an examined and often challenged faith at its core. Contributing to the possibility of spiritual living is the overarching goal of The Center for Spiritual Life.

Since its founding in 2003, The Center has sought to support and enhance the opportunities for religious/spiritual engagement on Eckerd's campus. Keeping in mind the College's commitment to educating the whole person, The Center seeks to offer opportunities for the consideration of faith in all aspects of living. While our primary constituency is Eckerd's traditional students, our programming and resources are available to anyone with interest.

On this site you will find information about the three division of the Center: the Chaplain's Office, the Office of Campus Ministries, and the Colloquy Program. While each division focuses on a different population, all sustain the Center's mission:

  1. To support and coordinate the work of the Offices of the Chaplain, Service Ministry and Campus Ministries, which currently includes Protestant, Catholic and Jewish organizations, as they seek to enrich the spiritual lives and understanding of our students.
  2. To bring together students and faculty members to foster a continuing and challenging campus conversation about spiritual issues.
  3. To provide a forum for public education and discussion focused on the role of religion and spiritual life in the contemporary world.

We hope you find this site helpful and easy to use. Please feel free to contact any of the Center's staff with comments.
