Edgar Award winner to help launch Eckerd Review 2014

posted on 04/08/2014

Edgar Award-winning author Lori Roy will appear at the Eckerd College Reading and Art Party to help unveil the 2014 edition of Eckerd Review on Monday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. in Cobb Gallery on campus, 4200 54th Ave. S. The event is free and open to the public.

Roy won the 2012 Edgar for best first novel, and her second book, Until She Comes Home, is nominated for best novel this year. She attributes much of her success to her four-time attendance at the annual Eckerd College Writers’ Conference: Writers in Paradise, co-founded and co-directed by Professor of Literature and Creative Writing Emeritus Sterling Watson and Dennis Lehane, a 1988 graduate of Eckerd’s Creative Writing program and last year’s Edgar Award winner for best novel.

An interview of Roy is included in Eckerd Review 2014, a journal of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and art created by members of the Eckerd community and published by students. During the Reading and Art Party, Roy will participate in a Q&A session covering parts of that interview. The event also will feature readings from other works in the Review, including poems by St. Petersburg Poet Laureate Peter Meinke and Eckerd College President Donald Eastman.

Visual art from the 2014 Review will be displayed in Cobb Gallery May 5-9 and celebrated at the party.
