Technical Analysis: Making Sense of the Markets

Instructor: Ralph Acampora 

This program is an intensive introduction to technical analysis and its use as an integral part of market analysis. Methodologies for construction and interpretation of bar charts, point and figure charts and candlestick charts are covered in depth. Participants will learn how to best use and interpret results from software and subscription products that automate and facilitate certain aspects of technical analysis. They will examine the top-down approach to external and internal indicators and undertake an in-depth analysis of U.S. and foreign equity markets, U.S. Treasuries, currencies, and commodities. This program covers the core concepts of the fixed income marketplace including the banking system, interest rates, and the yield curve. Discusses trading desk psychology and current market conditions. Ideal for traders, sales assistants, capital market assistants and other fixed income specialists. This program will highlight the Fed (policy, intervention and goals, Fed funds, the Government dealer, repo and reverse repo), the money market (bills and other short-term instruments, treasury coupon issues), and the yield curve (spreads and arbitrage, the outlook for interest rates and economic statistics). Yield Curve Analysis

The bond market changes daily. Specifically, the yield curve changes daily. This course addresses these movements which cause changes in investor attitude, the relative value of certain products, and the appeal of certain investments over others.
This program provides an overview of the foundations and application of various types of yield curves. Part of the program will deal with theoretical issues such as the determinations of the level and shape of the term structure of interest rates, as well as the relationship between changes in the shape of the curve or the spread between the curves. The focus will be on the mathematics of yield curves, the related analytic tools and methodologies. Basel II - Credit Risk
