2099   An Introduction to Computers and the Internet for Beginners

This free briefing session, designed specifically for OLLI participants, will introduce you to today’s hi-tech world. You will receive an inspiring overview of computers and the benefits of becoming PC and Internet literate.

This opportunity will take the mystery out of computers and the Internet. We will translate technical jargon into everyday terms and provide an “under-the-hood” overview of the components and functions of the computer. The class will provide examples of how the Internet can be used to explore areas of personal interest and communicate with friends and family via e-mail. There will also be a short discussion about buying your first home computer system.

By the end of this 3-day, course, you will know how to safeguard yourself and your computer from on-line security risks.You’ll also learn how to take advantage of the many resources available.   • Installing and using antivirus software
  • Home pages and Web addresses
  • Getting more specific information about Identity Theft
