Whether or not you're planning a vacation in 2012, you will enjoy hearing and singing of travels, vacations, and interesting places from your fantasies and on planet Earth. At the grand piano, Joy will take you on a Dreamer's Holiday to Far Away Places … from Manhattan to Marguaritaville. Perhaps you'll travel with a Dog Named Boo or with Puff the Magic Dragon alone or Side By Side. We will travel Around The World or down Country Roads to Bali Hai, on the Wabash Cannonball, or aboard the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Come Saturday Morning or maybe Never on a Sunday, you might be Cruising Down the River or Flying Down to Rio. Either way, as you travel on, love is what you'll remember.

3924CE Songs of Thanks: A Farewell to Jim Deegan

3924CE Songs of Thanks: A Farewell to Jim Deegan
Presenter: Joy Katzen-Guthrie
Friday, June 22
1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

3925PH Departure from Palm Harbor
Friday, June 22
12:30 - 4:30 p.m.

In 1984, James Deegan arrived on the Eckerd College campus to become the Vice President and Dean of Special Programs. Always an advocate of lifelong learning, Jim was essential in establishing Eckerd College's Senior College and nurturing the program as it became the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Eckerd College. It was Jim's direction and support that led us from early autumn term handouts listing twenty courses to the current OLLI at Eckerd College catalogs printed last year for a record 1200 program members.

Join us for an afternoon of music, refreshments and conviviality with Joy Katzen-Guthrie as we welcome Jim Deegan into the world of retirement. Rather than a farewell, let's think of this program as a painless initiation into the world of active retirement.

The Olympics symbol of interlaced rings of blue, yellow, black, green and red expresses the union of five continents and some 10,000 athletes from across the globe. As the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games prepare to begin, Joy Katzen-Guthrie will present a tribute in the best way she knows how: with a concert of music expressing the joy of sports, games, athleticism, winning, competition, physical movement and fun. You may be surprised how many songs feature metaphorical images of games, movement, and winning, such as love as a game, life as a dance, and hearts being won. A number of films and stage musicals related to sports feature exceptional music from Damn Yankees and Ice Castles to Chariots of Fire and Brian's Song. Celebrate the games of summer with this concert tribute.
