Family Weekend 2012

February 24-26, 2012

Argghhh! Thar's Eckerd College treasure to be found during Family Weekend! The swashbuckling fun officially begins at 3 pm on Friday and ends by 1:30 pm on Sunday.

Thar's a $65 registration fee per person for the weekend’s meals and activities. Look for a complete schedule of events and registration materials in January. Be sure to ask for the Eckerd College rate, me hearties!

Campus Bookstore Open
Yarr, be sure to use the bookstore coupon found in your Welcome Packet.
Bookstore also will be open on Saturday 8 am - 1 pm.

Faculty Lecture - Pirates: Myth and History with Professor of East Asian Humanities Andrew Chittick
Miller Auditorium

Dr. Chittick will look at the real history of the golden age of pirates in the Caribbean and South China seas, and compare them to modern-day piracy in the horn of Africa. Along the way he'll explore some of the great tales of piracy in popular culture, from Treasure Island and Captain Blood to Jack Sparrow.

Hough Quad
There are over 80 clubs and organizations on the Eckerd College campus for students to join. This evening, enjoy strolling through Hough Quad and learning more about these clubs. A picnic-style dinner will be served during this event.

A variety of sessions will be offered this morning for you to learn more about specific Eckerd programs including international education, internship possibilities, career resources, and service learning. This morning's program also will feature a session on long-distance parenting. A complete flier with topics and locations will be distributed at the President's Breakfast.

Drop by this reception hosted by the Parent Council to learn more about internships and externships at Eckerd College. Council members will share their experiences in securing internships for Eckerd students, and they will discuss how you can help connect students with available placements. Is your student searching for an internship or externship? Bring your student along and encourage him or her to network with the professionals in attendance.

An interfaith gathering celebrating spiritual life on campus and the gift of creation led by students, our College Chaplains and Rabbi, and religious leaders of other faiths.  During this unique celebration, Eckerd College parent and renowned Vanderbilt University Professor of Anthropology Arthur Demarest will offer remarks regarding his recent excavation of the ancient Maya port city of Cancuen , the nature of Maya civilization, and how current-day anthropologists are working to alleviate the modern economic and political oppression of the Maya.
