WINTER TERM 2015

January 5 - 23, 2015

Residential Winter Term Course Schedule

Winter term options

Students may enroll in On-Campus Projects, Off-Campus Trips (Contact International Education Office), Independent Study, or Senior Thesis/Comprehensive Examinations. Regular semester or directed study courses may not be taken as winter term independent projects.

Registration

  • Online registration by class standing will begin on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
  • The deadline for Winter Term Independent Study contracts is December 1, 2014.

Guidelines for on-campus projects

  • Eckerd College students are required to complete one short term each academic year---either an Autumn Term or a Winter Term.
  • Only one winter term may be taken in any one January.

All students

It is recommended that students work outside their intended major field of study during at least one winter term. Winter term projects require average students to work at least 40 hours per week to meet requirements at a passing level. The cost of Winter Term is included in the Spring Semester tuition for all fulltime students except students who have taken an Autumn Term.

Freshmen

  • Freshmen may take the Leadership and Self Discovery Practicum at the reduced fee of $500.00 for the course, plus room and board fees of $1172.00. This is open to first year students only. Short term credit will not apply to this project, but you will receive credit for a regular semester-length course.
  • Freshmen may enroll in Winter Off-Campus trips at the reduced tuition fee of $500.00 for the course, plus trip expenses.
  • Other Winter Term projects are open to freshmen at the regular tuition rate ($4514.00), plus room and board.
  • Charges are in addition to the Spring Semester tuition for freshmen who have taken Autumn Term and do not qualify students for a refund in future years. SENIORS: Winter term of the Senior year is frequently devoted either to preparation for Senior comprehensive examinations or Senior theses. No student enrolled in Senior comprehensives or thesis during January may take an additional winter term project.

New students

Students entering Eckerd College at mid-year enroll in the Winter Term project "Self Knowledge: Learning and Leading" which will meet one of the short term requirements for graduation. The Winter Term provides an ideal time to effect a successful transition to the college, and the cost is already included in your Spring Semester tuition. Independent Study Deadline for contracts is December 1, 2014. If you plan to take an independent winter term project, contact the professor with whom you wish to study well in advance of winter term registration day. Independent study contracts are available in the Registrar's office.
