Guest and Visitor Policy
Guest and Visitation Policy
Only those students who have been officially assigned a residence hall room, have paid housing fees, and have a signed housing agreement on file in the Housing Office may reside in College housing. All others are considered “guests” in the residence halls, and must be properly registered as guests with the Offices of Residence Life and Campus Safety.
Each resident student is entitled to his/her living space in his/her room or suite and should be allowed privacy. Each roommate has the right to sleep and study in his/her room. Resident students should remember that having a guest on campus is not a student’s right but is a privilege. Prior to registering a guest, the student “host” must consult with his/her roommate and the roommate must approve the guest in advance.
Students are only allowed two registered guests at one time. Resident students are responsible for their guest’s behavior at all times when the guest is on college property or attending any college sponsored events. A guest must remain in the company of his/her host throughout the entire visit. Any guest in violation of College policy may be asked to leave College property immediately. In addition, the host is responsible for the actions of the guest and may face conduct action if College policies are violated by the guest. Any host who violates the guest policy will subject to conduct procedures through the Office of Community Standards.
Overnight Guests
To register a guest overnight, a host must contact the Office of Residence Life to complete a guest registration form prior to the visit. The completed form will then be forwarded to the Campus Safety Office, and a guest card and parking pass will be issued to the host. Guests are allowed to be on campus for no more than three consecutive days, unless they have prior approval from the Office of Residence Life. Before the Office of Residence Life will consider a student’s request for a guest, the host must have the approval of his/her roommate in writing. Co-habitation is not permitted, and those who violate this policy may be subject to conduct action through the Office of Community Standards. Such actions may include removal from the residence hall, suspension from Eckerd College, and/or both.
Daily Visitors
A host must contact the Office of Campus Safety prior to the visitor’s arrival, and the visitor will be required to register with Campus Safety as he/she enters the campus. To register, the visitor must provide a valid government issued driver’s license or government issued identification card. A copy of the ID will be made by a Campus Safety officer and then the guest will receive a one day guest card and parking pass. If the guest plans to remain on campus for more than one day, he/she must register as an overnight guest with the Office of Residence Life.
