A world premier of the full project of William Shakespeare's 154 sonnets by accomplished calligrapher and Eckerd alumna Ruth Pettis '78. Ruth was a freshman when she was first introduced to Western calligraphy by Professor Margaret "Peg" Rigg. Influences encountered during her junior year fall semester in London were pivotal to her calligraphic development.

A Journey of Creativity: Parish Kohanim, Photographer
March 4, 7:30 pm, Miller Auditorium
Parish Kohanim, an “Explorer of Light,” has been intimately involved with photography for over 25 years. Parish, who is a renowned commercial photographer, is now devoting his efforts towards his first love, fine art photography. Advertising agencies, design firms, and Fortune 500 companies have been his primary clients, some of which include IBM, AT&T, Coca-Cola, DeBeers Diamonds, Hanes, Fossil, and Kimberly Clark. His work has repeatedly appeared on pages of such publications as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Forbes, TIME and Newsweek. The recipient of many awards, Parish is recognized for his photographs with international as well as local acclaim. His work has been featured in prestigious photography, advertising, and design publications. He has received numerous Gold Addys, a Clio, and most recently, the 2003 One Show Design Award.

Featuring documentary photographs from a career that began in 1955, Herb Snitzer's work has been frequently published in magazines such as LOOK, LIFE, and The Saturday Evening Post, and in newspapers such as The London Sunday Times and The New York Times. He is also represented in the collections of a number of museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The Tampa Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg.

Short Story Fiction Reading: An Evening with Amina Gautier
Wednesday, February 20, 7 pm, President’s Dining Room
A writer, scholar, and professor, Dr. Amina Lolita Gautier is the winner of the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction for her short story collection "At-Risk." She is the second African American writer to win this award in its thirty year history. Gautier's critical work focuses on such nineteenth century American authors as Charles W. Chesnutt, Eleanor Eldridge, Benjamin Franklin, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Walt Whitman. She is currently Assistant Professor of English at DePaul University, where she offers courses in creative writing and African American literature.

Piano Recital: Kaplan Piano Duo
Sunday, February 10, 3 pm, Roberts Music Center 104
The Kaplan Piano Duo, comprised of sisters Nanette Kaplan Solomon and Iris Kaplan Rosenthal, will perform piano duo works by Mozart, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, modern pieces by Leonard Bernstein and Peter Schickele, and the world premieres of Stephen Barr's "When men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits" (2012) and "Motions for piano duet (2012) by Judy Bruce.
Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon is a renowned educator, soloist and chamber musician and scholar. She has been a Professor of Piano and Music History at Slippery Rock University since 1977. Iris Kaplan Rosenthal is a chamber musician, soloist and teacher residing on Long Island.
Eckerd Community Band Concert

Featuring a varied program of music for wind band presented by Eckerd students, community volunteers and New Horizons Band members. Directed by David Irwin, Coordinator of Instrumental Music at Eckerd College.
Eckerd String Orchestra Concert
Thursday, May 9, 7:30 pm, Roberts Music Center 104
Eckerd student performers will be joined by faculty and professionals from the community to present a variety of chamber orchestra music, including a Handel concerto for organ and strings. Featuring soloist Thomas Hall on the Flentrop chamber organ. Directed by David Irwin, Coordinator of Instrumental Music at Eckerd College.
Annual Mother’s Day Spring Concert
Sunday, May 12, 3 pm, Wireman Chapel
Presented by the Eckerd Concert Choir
The Eckerd College Choral Ensembles and Eckerd Ringers will present a concert of varied works for chorus, orchestra and handbells. Featuring the music of Handel, a medley from "The Lion King" and original works for bells. Directed by Marion Smith, Professor of Music.

Funny Bones —The Comedy of Charlie Chaplin

"Funny Bones" is a unique hybrid of entertainment and education where Dan Kamin deconstructs the work of the comic genius with film clips, live demonstrations of physical comedy, and audience participation. The centerpiece of the evening will be a classic Chaplin short with live musical accompaniment by well-known silent film accompanist Peter Tavalin. Kamin created the physical comedy sequences for "Chaplin" and "Benny and Joon" and trained Robert Downey, Jr. and Johnny Depp for their acclaimed starring performances in those popular films.
Dan Kamin's appearance is being presented by Carrollwood Cultural Center where he will be performing "Comedy in Motion: A Cheap Evening of Expensive Theatre with Dan Kamin" on Feb. 9 and repeating. "Funny Bones" will be performed at Sarasota's Glenridge Performing Arts Center on Feb. 10. Visit www.carrollwoodcenter.org for more information.
Fuddy Meers

Claire has a rare form of amnesia that erases her memory when she falls asleep. Each day she wakes up a blank slate. Fuddy Meers is a hilarious, poignant, brutal little comedy tracing Claire’s quest to regain her memory in an unsettling world full of mad fun and genuine danger. Fuddy Meers is by David Lindsay-Abaire; directed by Cynthia Totten, Professor of Theatre at Eckerd College.

Ever wonder just how much time you can spend with your best friend? What about a stranger? Entrapped in a fluorescent room, three strangers challenge one another’s sanity while contemplating their precious lives. No Exit is by Jean-Paul Sarte and adapted by Paul Bowles.
