Brian MacHarg, Director of Service-Learning
Email | (727) 864-7512
Brian MacHarg is a 1992 graduate of the college. He has been serving as the Director of Service-Learning and as an adjunct faculty member since January 2001 where he oversees co-curricular and credit-bearing service-learning on campus. He has recently led students on service-learning projects to India, Burma, Iceland, Peru, Chicago, South Africa and elsewhere but enjoys plugging students into the social problems of St. Petersburg most of all. He teaches occasional courses in Service-Learning and also in the General Education department.
Elliott McDaniel, Service-Learning Intern
Email | (727) 864-8648
Elliott recently graduated Eckerd in May of 2011 with a major in East Asian Studies. Born and raised just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, Elliott has been an advocate of service since a young age. Since attending Eckerd, he's traveled to over 12 different countries, and lead two spring break service trips: one to the Appalachian mountains in Kentucky in 2010, and one to the island of St. John in 2011. He was highly involved with starting the on campus improvisation troupe, Another Man's Trash, as well as a Spinning instructor at the EC Fitness Center, an admissions Ambassador, and a Chinese language tutor. With this new position, Elliott hopes to continue spreading the love of civic engagement to Eckerd students in their involvement with the greater St. Petersburg community.
Lizzy Haag, Environmental Service-Learning Intern
Email | (727) 864-8649
My name is Lizzy. I graduated with a degree in the Arts form Eckerd College in 2011. I am originally from the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon where service and the environment first made an impression on my life. Since moving to Florida I have had the most unbelievable opportunities to travel and service, in local and global communities ranging from the Everglades to Europe to Argentina to Costa Rica. I am thrilled about my new opportunity in the service learning office to spread my passion for service and the environment, and the new knowledge I am gaining from the experiences my peers have attained through their commitment to serve. And, I am super rad.
Ashley Chambers (Email) and Sydney Nagel (Email), Gamma Knox Service Coordinators
Currently a sophomore, Ashley is majoring in Marine Science and Psychology. Living in Knox as a freshman introduced her to the vast amount of service opportunities on campus. Living in Knox and volunteering at a local aquarium helped begin her path with service. As a service coordinator, Ashley hopes to encourage residents to participate and lead events both on campus as well as in the community.
Sydney is a junior majoring in Human Development and French. She began her involvement with the Service Learning Office in her freshman year when she went on a spring break service trip to Washington, D.C. Living in Knox and volunteering with a local kindergarten class last year inspired her to help other students become involved at Eckerd and in the St. Petersburg community.
