Brian MacHarg is a 1992 graduate of the college. He has been serving as the Director of Service-Learning and as an adjunct faculty member since January 2001 where he oversees co-curricular and credit-bearing service-learning on campus. He has recently led students on service-learning projects to India, Burma, Iceland, Peru, Chicago, South Africa and elsewhere but enjoys plugging students into the social problems of St. Petersburg most of all. He teaches occasional courses in Service-Learning and also in the General Education department.

Kate Farley, Service-Learning Intern
Email | (727) 864-8648

My name is Kate Farley and I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from Eckerd College in 2012 with a degree in Environmental Studies and a double minor in Political Science and Anthropology. Throughout my life, I have been dedicated to helping and serving others. I have participated in service learning trips to seven different countries and many different communities around the United States. During my college years, I lead a service learning trip to Peru and raised $4,000 towards the construction of school. I have been involved with many local St. Petersburg, FL organizations including The Holocaust Museum, Edible Peace Patch, Taking Back Lives, and Lealman Asian Family Neighborhood Center. I am very excited to work in the Service Learning Office at Eckerd College to help connect our students to local and international service opportunities!

Alex Zielinski (Email), Gamma Knox Service Coordinator

Alexander Zielinski, currently a sophomore, is double majoring in Physics and Mathematics while also participating in Eckerd's Engineering program. He lived in Knox and was a frequent visitor to the Service Learning Office as a freshman. He has participated in service trips to Brunswick, Georgia, and Skaftafell National Park in Iceland. He has also been a site leader for Community Plunge, the spring version of Into the Streets. He hopes to inspire Knox, as well as all other Eckerd students, to think about service for others and the opportunities Eckerd's Service-Learning office has to offer.
